#14 Five money things or Five Intriguing Things?
health and wealth, consistency, life hacks, Munger, Kelly
Hi Folks!
A lot of you open the emails. Thank you for that. If you do enjoy what I write, please do share it forward. It will help us grow. After all, I am trying to remain consistent here (more on consistency later).
Do you think I should widen my horizon and share interesting things outside of money? Let me know.
⭕ Focus On Health For Long Term Wealth
I have a keen focus on keeping myself healthy. I know I have to take care of my body today so that it does not trouble me later in life. A longer life would be an added benefit so that I could see more of what happens with the world and how compounding works in my favour.
Peter Attia is famous for focusing on how can one live a longer life through prevention. His new book has some good reviews. While I am yet to read the book, the summary from Rational Reflections is a good starting point.
Both good long term health and a solid financial plan require taking a very long-term mindset right now in order to improve outcomes decades from now. This mindset is relatively uncommon.
💹 Small, Smart Choices + Consistency + Time = RADICAL DIFFERENCE
Tiny things, done consistently over a long period can have massive difference to your long-term well being. I have written about positive compounding and negative compounding in the past. I have been focusing a lot on being consistent on multiple things for a few weeks now. While I have understood the impact of it on wealth, I am now seeing the magic in running too. I have run more than 3,500 kms in two and a half years and my pace is consistently improving. It will certainly peak somewhere but right now there is massive scope for future improvement too.
With the same mindset, I am trying to add the following to my daily routines -
Five to ten minutes of language learning. 20 days of consistency so far.
Intermittent fasting is something that I struggle with. I have started again with 14 hours of daily fast. On the 5th day of consistency.
I have started hitting the gym for 3 days a week. Happy to report that this is the 4th month. (Pay for personal training, you’ll never look back).
Reading everyday. The first thing that I do with my morning coffee.
A few more habits that I want to add to my kitty -
Writing for 20 minutes on a daily basis.
Practicing the piano everyday.
🐱💻 A Bunch Of Life Hacks
Kevin Kelly is the master of life hacks. The author of this posts has picked some of the good ones from Kevin along with other hacks from people around the world. A few that I couldn’t stop myself from highlighting -
Getting cheated occasionally is a small price to pay for trusting the best in everyone, because when you trust the best in others, they will treat you the best.
Build identity capital. In your 20s do three fascinating things that job interviewers and dinner companions will want to ask you about for the rest of your life.
📚 Read Old Books
Old books have all the wisdom we need. We just don’t know it yet because we have not read them. A rule that I follow is that I will only read books that come highly recommended by people I admire. This way, I end up avoid the junk bestsellers that we have today.
👴 More Wisdom From Munger
Anything on or from Charlie Munger must not be missed. A good summary of his interview with Ted Combs. Charlie is inflation isn’t his problem anymore. You only need to find a couple of great businesses to get really really wealthy. Everyone is absolutely bonkers.
⚱ Other Interesting Things
A niche thing - a recent podcast discovery. Anish is interested in a variety of things that interest me too but he knows much more than I do.
