Money Saving Hack, One Tweet Financial Plan, Bucket List, Cheese Rolling, The Last Lecture
We are back to the weekly format
Hello Everyone -
I hope you are all doing well and are in good health. I didn’t go ahead with the daily e-mail experiment because a lot of you did not like it and were unsubscribing. I got immediate feedback that it’s not working. 😃
We are back to the weekly format.
🐤 One Tweet Financial Plan
Carl Richards is someone who can simplify things and present them on a page through illustrations. He is also an author and a Certified Financial Planner. He made the one page financial plan popular. He even wrote a book about it. He explains why his book is more than a page longer in this post. Basically, the idea is that you should be able to write your own financial plan on a single page. Like me, freedom and experiences are a part of Carl’s list too.
Someone on twitter told me that everyone cannot afford a financial advisor and that it should be made available for free. There is a lot of free and really good content available on the internet. I shared my one tweet financial plan yesterday for anyone looking to make a head start. You can deep dive on each of these aspects and figure your way forward.
✔ Hack To Save More Money
You may have a very good financial plan in place but a little extra money never hurt anyone. Here is a money hack for you. Set up auto debits for INR 500-1,000 or $10-$20 for a couple of times each month in an index fund or any other mutual fund or a bank account that you do not use every day. After a few months, years or decades of doing this, you’ll have a very good sum accumulated. The good thing? The sums are so tiny that you will not even notice that the money has gone out from your account.
🧺 M.Y. B.U.C.K.E.T. L.I.S.T.
Amid all the gloom and doom, if you are someone who is stressed about the Covid situation, take some time to watch this talk on bucket list and avoiding a life of regret.
A well-defined bucket list is just not about travelling. There is a lot more than that. Travis defines it as follows -
M - Meet My Hero
Y - Your Proud Achievements
B - Buy Something Special
U - Ultimate Challenges
C - Conquer a Fear
K - Kind Act For Others
E - Express Yourself
T - Take Lessons
L - Leave A Legacy
I - Idiotic Stuff
S - Satisfy A Curiosity
T - Travel Adventures
🔍Interesting Finds On The Web
Did you know that there is an event called “Cheese Rolling” that’s organised every year near Gloucester in England. Participants race down the 200-yard-long hill after a round of Double Gloucester cheese is sent rolling down it. Here is a fun video from the event.
🔊 Blind People Can Listen To Audio At More Than Normal Speeds
Ever wondered why do services like Audible, Youtube and the likes have an option to listen to the audio at higher speeds? According to research, it is understood that while sighted people can comprehend speech at 10 syllables per second, blind people can comprehend speech up to 25 syllables per second. I have started listening to podcasts and Youtube clips at higher speeds too. It works.
📕 Recommended Reading
I finished reading the book “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch who wrote it when he was just few months away from death. This book does not talk about how to position yourself when you are dying but talks a lot about how to live a great life. This book is based on a talk given by him at Carnegie Mellon University.
Thank you for reading. Stay safe.
